Today marks the beginning of #mentalhealthawarenessweek.
‘Loneliness’ is this years theme. Loneliness is something that most of us have experienced at some time in our lives, however, enduring loneliness can be a key factor in poor mental health for some people.
Like a lot of conversation around mental health, talking about loneliness can be difficult. People who are feeling lonely may feel embarrassed or may not want to feel like they’re being a burden so may not want to open up to colleagues, friends or family members about it.
Even in a room full of people, it’s still possible to feel lonely. Sometimes all that’s needed is for someone to take the time to say hello or maybe just a 2 minute conversation about the weather – that might be the only interaction a person has had in weeks and it could mean the world to them.
We’ll share some tips through the week on how to cope with loneliness but also from a corporate point of view, how to support someone in your team who may be feeling lonely.
