We can’t stress this enough…

Take care of you!

April brings the start of Stress Awareness Month and shines a spotlight on the importance of having healthy practices in-place that help us to cope when life gets stressful. The theme this year is ‘Little By Little, A Little Becomes A Lot’ emphasising how small actions can make a big difference.

We’re so often told to be kind to others, and in our busy schedules sometimes we can forget to make time for ourselves. This can lead to us burning out and experiencing long-term effects. At MJV we believe that prioritising your well-being is essential in both your personal and professional life.

By making small changes over a period of time, such as going for a walk at lunch, or practicing 10 minutes of mindfulness before bed, you can slowly start building up your mental health and resilience. Stress is an inevitable part of life so it is important to have coping mechanisms we can draw on.

We asked our team the steps they take when they start to feel stressed. Here’s what they had to say…

‘Whenever I am feeling stressed, I make sure that I am still making time for the things that I love doing such as seeing friends and exercising. That time gives me a chance to reset and have a fresh approach’.

‘Having an element of stress in our everyday life helps keep us focussed on the matters in hand but when that stress becomes overpowering, it is time to take a step back.  I consciously take things slower.  I make time to listen to a book I enjoy or a podcast or two on mindfulness, anything that makes me be in the moment. Gradually I can start to feel myself reset, the stress has eased and I am ready to go again’.

‘Taking time to stop and reset is important. Every day I take some time to practice mindfulness to keep myself grounded, I find it really helps to build clarity into my day, especially if it’s a busy one!’

One of the main things to remember is to treat yourself and others with empathy during those stressful periods and know that it will pass.
